VOX- A Journey Through God's Word

2010 will be a life- altering experience for our church. Together we will be taking a year long journey through the Bible, which is the Word of God. VOX is Latin for VOICE. The Bible is the voice of God to all men. Yet, we have to admit that it seems intimidating and hard to understand to most of us.  No matter what our level of knowledge of the Bible, this series will be of great value to each of us that will last a life time. Our goals for this series are as follows:
  1. That we would be able to articulate the overall purpose of God in the world and to adjust the expectations and aspirations for our lives accordingly.
  2. That we will be able to envision the structure of the Bible so that we will always know “where we are” when reading or studying the Bible.
  3. That we will learn how to better interpret the Bible in light of its context.
  4. That we will become more confident in our understanding of the Bible and its message so that we can share it with others.
  5. That we will personalize key Bible stories and teaching in to our lives.
  6. That we will grow deeper in love with the God of the Bible and become more conformed to the image of Christ.
Our journey will involve several levels.
  1. Personal reading of the Chronological Bible. This Bible seeks to arrange the Scripture in the historical order in which the events took place. The order in which the books are actually placed in the Bible is some cases are not in chronological order. We recommend the New Living Translation of the Chronological Bible for reading purposes.(The reading plan is available online here.)
  2. The messages on Sunday morning will not exactly correspond to your personal reading. It is important to understand why. In the first place, readings are daily, our services are weekly. In addition, some places in the Bible require more time that others to understand the significance of what is written. This will not be a verse by verse study, but more big-picture, highlighting the goals stated above.
  3. There will be a weekly Bible Study Guide that will focus attention on the content to be taught on that Sunday so that you can be ready for each week.
  4. Resources will be recommended as we go along for those who want to go deeper. We hope that these will be available for purchase in the Resource Center on a timely basis.
  5. We will be providing some special events during the year to enhance certain aspects of biblical studies. For example, we will have a six hour seminar on how to study the Bible sometime in the spring.
We hope you will not only engage this opportunity for your own growth, but that you would invite others to join in the journey with you!
